Electrical Inspection and Testing
Format Electrical Services Ltd. have developed over recent years, with the use of the latest information
technology available, a cost effective method of carrying out a full BS7671 Inspection and Testing report.
The tests are carried out utilising state of the art equipment which is downloaded to our engineers lap-tops and e-mailed, together with photographic
evidence of any physical damage to the installation, to Format's office's, where the
appointed Client's account administrator downloads the information into the latest AVO Powersuite software. Any remedial works identified following
the electrical inspection and testing are costed and posted onto our web-server for exclusive access by the client to view the photographic evidence relating to
each defect.
Format Electrical Services Ltd. can further offer to hold all these records on behalf of our client and will
forward any copies of reports to third parties, i.e. landlords and the like, if so requested, thus operating total management of your properties.

(PAT) service nation-wide to our clients.
Format Electrical Services Ltd. Electrical Health Check.
We are able to carry out an annual visit, including all stores and / or locations where applicable, for the purpose of providing a
basic health and safety check, aimed primarily at the electrical equipment at each location. Whilst on site however, other items
can be examined and if necessary photographic evidence can be obtained.
Format Electrical Services Ltd. have been looking at the latest IT technology, and by
simple use of a palm top computer, using AVO PowerSuite software, a mobile phone and a digital camera, we are able to
create a simple tick box form along with photographs. This can be downloaded on a daily basis to the Format
offices which, when necessary, can be posted to our web server for access by our client's maintenance department for further action as may be required.
Below is a guide to our Health Check service:
Visual Inspection
- Carry out a visual inspection of the electrical installation, which is to include mains distribution equipment, by removing or
opening all switches, MCB boards, contactors, busbars etc., and to examine for excessive heat or deterioration through colour
or any loose connections.
- Carry out a visual electrical inspection by walking around the location, examining for breakages, excessive use of extension leads etc.
- Mechanically test RCD's, to see they are operating correctly.
- Ensure that the location has an adequate first aid kit.
- Ensure that the location has a serviceable fire blanket (if required).
- Carry out a visual electrical inspection of specific equipment, which can be agreed upon as required.
Basic Electrical Inspection and Testing
- Electrical load check, incoming earth loop (Ze), RCD tests, mains voltage on all phases and record.
- Carry out portable appliance testing (PAT) to items of electrical equipment associated to the location for use by the staff of the
branch, where applicable.
- Carry out an earth continuity test to specific equipment, which can be agreed upon as required.
Emergency Lighting Testing
- Carry out a full 12 monthly emergency lighting test to BS5266, and record on AVO PowerSuite.

- Carry out a full 12 monthly fire alarm test to BS5839, and record on AVO PowerSuite.

Fire Extinguishers
- Carry out a full 12 monthly electrical inspection of the fire extinguishers to BS5306 Part 3, excluding parts, and record on AVO PowerSuite.
We offer a team of dedicated engineers, fully skilled and approved JIB Electricians, specifically trained by us to carry out this
contract work for each specific client. Office based administrators organise the engineers visits to the location, along with a
compilation of the data being returned to the Format office which is then forwarded to our web server
for exclusive access by our clients. The aim is to create a totally paperless system for ease of management and for the storage of electronic data.
